Petrichor

The scent of rain on dry earth.

Greek.

petra: stone

ichor: the fluid that flows from the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.

Oils given off by certain vegetation that permeate into the surrounding environment are released into the air after first rain. The smell that we experience after this process is called petrichor.
